Danville To Vote On Banning E-Bikes From Sidewalks
DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council will vote Tuesday on an ordinance to prohibit e-bicycles on sidewalks. The California Vehicle Code already prohibits e-scooters on sidewalks, but lets municipalities regulate the use of bicycles on sidewalks.
The Danville Police Department has received an increasing number of complaints about scooters and bikes on sidewalks, according to a town staff report. In May, the Bicycle Advisory Commission unanimously voted to recommend that the Town Council approve a proposed ordinance banning riding bikes, e-bikes, and motorized scooters on sidewalks in the Downtown Business District.
The council reviewed the proposed ordinance in June, and after discussion and input from the police, directed staff to modify the proposed ordinance to remove pedal-powered bicycles from the ordinance, and broaden its scope to include all sidewalks within business districts throughout Danville.

The ordinance would not affect anything along the corridor of the Iron Horse Trail, which falls under the jurisdiction of the East Bay Regional Parks District.
The meeting will be held Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Town Meeting Hall on 201 Front Street, and a video will also be posted here. See here for the full staff report, and here for the full meeting agenda.
