Southampton reject loan approaches for Sékou Mara

Foot Mercato are reporting that Premier League side Southampton have rejected loan approaches for Sékou Mara (20) from Lorient, Strasbourg and Augsburg. 

Mara joined Southampton from Bordeaux last summer, and the France U20 international is beginning to thrive on the south coast. He scored his first goal for the Saints during the club’s Carabao Cup triumph over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. 

According to Foot Mercato, Southampton and their new manager Nathan Jones are counting on the young French striker in the second half of the season. However, that hasn’t stopped foreign clubs from making an approach for Mara. Ligue 1 clubs Lorient and Strasbourg both made concrete loan approaches for the player, as did Bundesliga side Augsburg. 

Those offers have been brushed aside by Southampton, who have no desire to see Mara make a loan move away from the club this winter, especially given their perilous position towards the bottom of the Premier League table.
