Great White Shark Eats Seal By Cape Cod Beach: Drone Video
ORLEANS, MA — A beachgoer flying a drone at Nauset Beach in Orleans last week captured a great white shark eating a seal about 500 feet from shore. Chris Palermo called it the “craziest” thing he has ever filmed.
“I couldn’t believe I was filming,” Palmero told The Boston Globe.
Palermo posted his video on Instagram Friday and the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy confirmed it was indeed a great white.
Cape Cod is a hot spot for great white sharks, which are drawn in by the dense seal population during the summer months. Shark attacks on humans are extremely rare; the odds are about one in 12 million. Most shark attack victims survive, as bites on humans by sharks are normally exploratory. The last great white shark attack on a human in Massachusetts was In 2012, when a great white bit a man on the leg off the coast of Truro.
