Beverly Hills Attorney Sold Opiates On Craigslist, Feds Say

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – A Beverly Hills attorney was arrested by federal investigators on suspicion of illegally selling oxycodone pills through Craigslist, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday.

Jackie Ferrari, 36, was arrested late Friday by law enforcement officers affiliated with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, which operates under the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, according to NBC Los Angeles.

The Downey resident was charged with one count of distributing a controlled substance and is accused of selling 50 oxycodone pills for $1,200 to a law enforcement source “with a long history of purchasing narcotics,” according to an affidavit in the case obtained by KTLA. She allegedly texted the informant and other potential customers letting them know she had other drugs for sale.

Ferrari, who recently started her job at a Beverly Hills law firm, allegedly has a “long history” of selling narcotics to a law enforcement informant, the Daily Mail reported.

The investigation into the attorney started after a 22-year-old woman died in August of a fentanyl overdose, and text messages on the victim’s phone initially indicated she may have purchased the narcotics from Ferrari, according to federal prosecutors.

The affidavit obtained by KTLA said investigators currently don’t believe Ferrari sold the narcotics that led to the overdose death, but they continued to investigate her “based on evidence” that she is a large-scale trafficker in opiates through Craigslist. The affidavit also claims that two local police departments developed information about the attorney’s alleged drug trafficking activities in late 2017.

If convicted as charged in the criminal complaint, Ferrari would face up to 20 years in federal prison, according to prosecutors.
