After Rejections, Burr Ridge May Eye Fence Rules
BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge may review its regulations on fences after it has rejected several families’ requests.
At Monday’s Village Board meeting, Trustee Anita Mital called for relooking at the code.
“We want our residents to feel safe and comfortable,” she said. “Everyone who is coming to us has young kids. There is a reason why they need a fence.”

At the same time, Mital said she understood why the Plan Commission had to follow the village’s rules. So she suggested the village revisit the fence regulations and find ways to help more residents.
Trustee Guy Franzese noted the Plan Commission reviewed the fence rules as recently as the spring. He said the latest issues with fences have been in corner yards.

Grasso said corner yards should be the focus.
“I don’t think there’s an appetite right now for front yard fences. Let’s not open that Pandora’s box,” the mayor said.

Grasso asked the zoning department to outline the issues for trustees and that trustees should then email their views.
“Then we’ll have a back and forth and see if there’s some consensus,” he said. “Maybe we’ll come to some consensus to leave it alone.”
Trustees did not object to Grasso’s plan.
In a related issue, Grasso said the village has received phone calls and emails about the request of the Zaffar family to have a gate and front yard fence for their house in the 6300 block of South County Line Road. In late August, the village rejected the request.
Their neighbors have front yard fences on their properties. But their lots are big enough under village rules to have fences.
“I just want the public to know that the village staff is working with the Zaffar family to figure it out,” the mayor said.
