Burr Ridge Police Official Demoted After Arrest: Village

BURR RIDGE, IL – The deputy police chief in Burr Ridge who was arrested on a drunken-driving charge in Virginia has been demoted to sergeant, the village confirmed Thursday.

Ryan Husarik, who was in suburban Washington to attend the FBI National Academy, was arrested April 15 while he was driving a squad car. His blood-alcohol level was 2½ times the legal limit in Virginia, which is the same as in Illinois, authorities said.

Husarik, a Lemont resident, was put on unpaid leave for eight weeks.

In an email to Patch, Village Administrator Evan Walter said the demotion took effect after Husarik returned from his leave in late July.

Next week, the other deputy chief, Marc Loftus, is expected to become the new police chief, replacing the retiring John Madden. The Village Board is set to vote on Loftus’ appointment Monday.

This means the department will be without either deputy chief.

Asked whether the village plans to fill both positions, Walter said no decision has been made.

Husarik’s arrest was unknown to the public until Patch reported it June 10. After the Chicago Tribune decided to write about it a week later, the village hired a “crisis communication” public relations firm. (The village spent $1,475, describing the item as “Media Relations and Follow-up.”)

Husarik was promoted to deputy chief in 2022. He has been with the department for about two decades.
