SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…

The following is the latest in a new series of weekly in-depth articles exclusive to PWTorch which will help put in perspective major wrestling promotions with a weekly overview, looking at news and roster developments, results, future line-ups, social media activity, key interviews, plus a timely commentary at the end. We will be featuring similar features on other promotions each week and each will be updated weekly.

•Top Stories of the Week

  • It has been reported here at the torch, as well as the wrestling observer, that AEW representatives are currently trying to negotiate for the video rights to All In. But, it is being reported that ROH, who currently owns the footage, is asking for to high a price for the footage.
  • Stadom’s Mayu Iwatani will be appearing at TV tappings, as well as the Honor Club event in Miami in mid February. Per The Wrestling Observer AEW has made a strong push to sign Iwatani. However ROH paid for Iwatani’s 3 year visa to work in the US. AEW would need to work out a deal with ROH in order to sign her, which seems unlikely at this time.
  • The Road to G1 Supercard in Texas begins this week. This will be 3 Honor Club events that will help to start the storylines that will no doubt end in Madison Square Garden at G1 Supercard.

•Live Event Results

There were no live events this week.

•Closing Commentary

I want to talk about the premier of Rush in ROH this week. I will admit that I have not seen Rush perform before. I will also admit that I do not like the work of TK O’Ryan. But, I thoroughly enjoyed the match these two had. Rush looked strong, while elevating O’Ryan in the match. I prefer the New Japan style of booking matches; this is the style that makes all matches fairly competitive, no matter the level of the wrestlers.

That being said, I really enjoyed Rush’s moveset and overall approach to the match. He is a great blend of luchador and strong style, which is great in today’s wrestling industry. I also like that Rush started off  with a midcard opponent to give him a solid win, but if he did not sign his contract, it would not have ruined a top guy.

This also could set up an interesting end to the fake title storyline. Rush vs. Taven would be an intriguing match. Rush beating every member of the Kingdom will make him a top babyface in a short amount of time. He can then battle Lethal in a Title vs. Title match.

No matter what the booking decision is on Rush, he is a natural star. Just like Bandido, both men should be pushed to the moon in 2019.
