Ganga Vilas Wasn't Stuck In Shallow Waters, Says Operator As The Luxury Cruise Reach Patna
The Ganga Vilas cruise, the world’s longest river cruise, reached the Bihar capital Patna on Monday, hours after it was reportedly stuck in Chapra due to silt and shallow water.
According to officials, the Ganga Vilas cruise reached Patna at 4.45 pm on Monday and the and passengers spent the night on board.
On Tuesday they will visit places of interest in the city, including the Patna Sahib Gurudwara.

Earlier, on Monday, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways had clarified that MV Ganga Vilas was not stuck in Chhapra.
“There is absolutely no truth in the news that the vessel is stuck at Chhapra. The anchoring place and mode of transport of tourists to the bank is decided by the cruise operator depending on safety and privacy of its passengers,” the ports, shipping and waterways ministry said.
Initially, it was reported that when the cruise reached Chapra town in Saran district, it got stuck in the shallow water, following which the operators of the cruise lowered the anchor in the middle of the river and made arrangements for small boats for the passengers to travel to the river banks to see historic remains of Chirand.
First voyage of Ganga Vilas
Flagged off at Varanasi on Friday, the cruise had entered Bihar a day later via Buxar.
The world’s longest river cruise will take 51 days to complete its journey from Varanasi to Dibrugarh in Assam.
The Ganga Vilas cruise will cover 3,210 km in 51 days crossing 27 small and big rivers. Its route was Ghazipur (UP), Buxar, Chapra (Saran), Patna Munger, Sultanganj, Bhagalpur (Bihar), West Bengal, Dhaka (Bangladesh), Guwahati, and Dibrugarh with stops at 50 places.

The cruise vessel is 62.5 metres long and 12.8 metres wide with a 40,000 litre fuel tank and 60,000 litre water storage capacity.
The first trip of Ganga Vilas cruise had 32 tourists from Switzerland apart from other countries. Some domestic tourists are also travelling. The cruise vessel has world class facilities including 18 rooms, a 40-seater restaurant, gym, spa, open balcony, lecture hall, internet, television and many other entertainment facilities available.

The 51-day voyage that costs over Rs 20 lakhs for one passenger is reportedly fully booked till March 2024.
Raj Singh, the founder and CEO of Raj Singh Antara Luxury River Cruises, which operates the Ganga Vilas, told The Times of India that new bookings will be possible until after April 2024.
