Bengaluru: Women Techie, Daughter Killed After Concrete Mixer Truck Crashes Into Their Car

In a tragic incident, a mother and daughter were killed in a road accident in Bengaluru after a concrete mixer truck overturned and fell on their car.

The incident happened on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru on Wednesday around 7.35 am at Byalamara Doddi when the woman, identified as Gayatri Kumar, was on the way to drop Samatha Kumar off at school.

Speeding truck lost control and crashed

A loaded concrete truck, reportedly over-speeding lost control while negotiating a curve; the truck driver applied brakes and lost control of the vehicle.

As a result, the truck fell to its left and overturned on the road, crushing Gayatri and Samatha’s car under its weight.

According to the police, the speeding truck had overturned and crushed the Hyundai Venue car on Bannerghatta road.

Four cranes used to pull out the car

Passers-by could not pull out the woman and her daughter trapped under the vehicle and alerted the police.

A total of four mobile cranes and an earth-moving vehicle were used to remove the bodies.

The deceased woman was an IT professional, while her daughter was a class X student of Sherwood High in Basavanapura, Bannerghatta main road. 

Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s husband, Sunil Kumar, Bengaluru police have registered a case against the truck’s owner and driver, both absconding now.

Bengaluru metro pillar accident

Last month a mother and her toddler son were crushed to death after an under-construction metro pillar fell on their two-wheeler.

The woman, identified as Tejaswini, and one of her 2-year-old twin sons died in the incident in the Nagavara area of Bengaluru.

The woman’s husband and the other twin son, who were also travelling on the two-wheeler, survived with injuries.

Following the incident, a case was registered against Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC), five of its officials and two of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

The High Court of Karnataka also initiated a suo-moto (on its own) PIL. On January 31, it issued notices to BMRCL, the state government, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the BMRCL chief engineer and Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited over the two deaths.

Second mishap at metro construction site 

Just days after the death of Tejaswini, and her son, another mishap occurred at a metro construction site in Doddanekundi crossroads near Mahadevapura on the Outer Ring Road in Bengaluru.

A barricade fell on a four-wheeler carrying family members and damaged the vehicle, while its occupants survived unhurt.
