The pod of orcas is known for their playful nature interacting with boats, Newport Landing & Davey’s Locker Whale Watching Spokesperson Jessica Rodriguez told Patch.
According to Rodriguez, passengers were able to get a look at the matriarch — CA51 Star — and her three offspring, sons CA51B Orion and CA51C Bumper. Bumper is known for his distinctive six-foot tall dorsal fin and playful behavior around boats.

“Lucky passengers aboard our whale watching boats were thrilled to see this family of orcas again today, as they used to be one of the most frequently-sighted killer whale pods in Southern California,” Rodriguez said.
