Dog Rescued In 1 Of 2 Fires On Long Island On Christmas Eve: Police

BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — Arson Squad detectives are investigating two fires in Brookhaven Town on Christmas Eve, one of which involved a dog rescue, Suffolk police said.

The fire broke out at the Overlook Drive home in Farmingville at around 7:15 p.m., and multiple fire departments were called to the scene, according to police.

A dog was taken to safety and uninjured, police said.

Detectives are also investigating a fire that broke out at a Columbia Street home in Port Jefferson Station on Christmas Eve just before 7 p.m.

Firefighters responded to at least two other smaller fires in the township on Christmas Day.

An oven fire broke out just after 2 p.m. at Meadowmere Avenue in Mastic, and around five hours later, they were called to a fireplace fire at a home on Inverness Road in Holbrook at about 7:30 p.m.

No one was injured in any of the fires.
