Elmhurst D205 Settles Over Student's Residency

ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst School District 205 board struck a deal with the family of a student who was believed to live outside the district’s boundaries.

Under the terms, the family was required to pull their child from the school and barred from enrolling the child locally through the 2025-26 school year.

In return, the district agreed to waive the tuition that it said the parents owed for this school year.

The agreement bars the parents from telling anyone about the pact, other than their immediate family, attorney, accountant or other tax professional. If they breach this clause, the parents must pay tuition for this year.

For its part, the district agreed to keep the agreement secret, unless someone filed a Freedom of Information Act request for it. That is how Patch obtained it.

In November, the school board approved three resolutions on specific students’ residency. The district did not disclose the students’ names, and the board’s agenda did not indicate what the resolutions called for.
