JOLIET — While most of Joliet’s citizens were getting a good night’s sleep in their beds, the Joliet Police Department’s overnight shift arrested a 23-year-old Plainfield citizen on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon.

Joliet police discovered that Juan Saldivar was driving the far west side of Joliet with a loaded gun in his vehicle, the arrest reports show.

Saldivar was the driver of the truck. During the traffic stop, the officers saw an open backpack that contained a mason jar with cannabis inside.

While speaking to the officers, Saldivar indicated that he had a handgun in the vehicle, English noted.

Upon search of the vehicle, the officers recovered a loaded handgun as well as the cannabis that was seen earlier by the officers as they stood outside the vehicle.

Saldivar was placed into custody without incident. Saldivar was also cited for disobeying a stop sign, having no front registration plate, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and possession of cannabis by the driver.
