Man Accidentally Fired Manhattan Cop's Gun Before Turning It In: PD
MANHATTAN, IL — A Manhattan police commander will face disciplinary action, after leaving his gun behind last month at a Lockport restaurant, Manhattan Police Chief Ryan Gulli confirmed Friday.
The gun—which was found in the bathroom of a Noodles & Company—was turned in to Joliet police later that same night, but the person who found it discharged the gun accidentally before calling 911, according to reports.
The officer called Lockport police at 9:30 p.m. that night, after realizing they did not have their Smith & Wesson handgun.

Later that night, a man called 911, saying he’d found the gun in the restaurant bathroom while making deliveries. Joliet police were called to the 5900 block of Lake Pointe Drive, where they spoke with the man through an interpreter to bridge a language gap, the report said.
The man said he had found the gun and drove home with it in the passenger side of his car. After arriving in his driveway, he began “manipulating” the gun, when a round was accidentally fired into the passenger side floorboard, according to reports.
