Driver Approached Darien Students, Investigation Ongoing: Police
DARIEN, CT — The Darien Police Department is investigating two recent incidents in which a driver of an SUV approached students as they were walking in town.
Superintendent of Darien Public Schools Dr. Alan Addley sent a letter to families on Tuesday alerting them that earlier in the day, a parent notified the school district that their elementary student was walking home after school with friends in the area of Mansfield Avenue when they were approached by someone in a vehicle who engaged the student in a brief conversation.
Darien police Sgt. Mauricio Vigil told Patch via email that while no crimes were reported, detectives are exploring potential connections with a previous similar incident that occurred in town. Addley said another encounter took place “over recent weeks.”

“As part of their ongoing investigation, police are seeking to speak with the driver of the gray SUV involved in these encounters,” Vigil said. “As of now, the investigation is still ongoing.”
Addley said there is no current public safety threat, but he encouraged parents to review these types of situations with their children and remind them not to talk to strangers and to report any suspicious incidents to a parent, school resource or school security officer, a crossing guard or school principal.
