Train Car Torched In Concord Under Water Street Bridge: Watch

September 3, 2024 0 By JohnValbyNation

CONCORD, NH — Concord fire and rescue teams, as well as police, were sent to a train car fire in the southern part of the city on Monday night.

Just before 9 p.m., police dispatch received a report about a possible fire to a car on the railroad tracks behind the CVS on Hall Street. Fire dispatch also received a call about the same time.

Fire dispatch told firefighters they could access the area from South Main Street. Officers on the way to the scene reported seeing smoke but could not say where it was coming from. When the first officer arrived, they confirmed the fire.

“It’s a medium-sized fire underneath the car,” the officer told dispatch.

A second officer called the watch commander about another possible issue at the scene, according to scanner chatter.

An officer suggested telling firefighters access from Gas Street or Water Street would be best.

Firefighters reported seeing heavy smoke in the area and came at the fire from Hall Street.

Around 9:15 p.m., the fire commander reported they had water on the fire.

The fire appeared to be in two locations — the train car itself and underneath and near the train car along the tracks.

Around 9:30 p.m., an officer reported that the fire commander would inform the railroad company about the situation, and they would finish up and clear the scene.

About 15 minutes after that, firefighters cleared the scene. The fire commander said the teams had to make a forced entry into the car to get to the fire. They said they would contact the rail company on Wednesday.
