EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Students at Evergreen Park Community High School got an unplanned fire drill Wednesday morning when the building evacuated due to a malfunctioning fire alarm, school officials said.

Interim Dist. 231 Supt. Michael Riordan told Patch that at approximately 8:30 a.m. the fire alarm system was triggered just as the school day was beginning. All staff and students promptly evacuated the building and the Evergreen Park Fire Department arrived at the school within minutes.

“Thankfully, there was no fire, nor was there any inappropriate pulling of an alarm,” Riordan said. “A malfunction occurred within the system, which is being addressed immediately.”
