Teen Twin Fatally Stabbed Outside Bodega During Violent NYC Weekend
NEW YORK CITY — A pair of 19-year-old twin sisters were slashed, one fatally, by a man angered that they wouldn’t return his drunken flirtations in a Park Slope bodega, according to police and reports.
The stabbing death of Samyia Spain, 19, was one of at least five suspected homicides during a violent weekend in New York City, authorities said.
Victims across the city were stabbed, shot and — in one case — killed with a single punch Saturday and Sunday, police said.

The bodega incident unfolded early Sunday as twins Samyia and Sanyia Spain walked inside Natural Plus deli, on the corner of Fourth Avenue and St. Marks Place, to buy snacks for a family game night, the New York Daily News first reported.
Inside, a drunken man tried to flirt with Samyia, who refused to give him her phone number, the report states. Samiya gave the man her Instagram handle, but with a catch, her sister told the Daily News.

“She said she wasn’t going to follow him back,” Sanyia said, according to the Daily News. “That’s it. She said no.”
The man became belligerent, prompting a bodega worker to kick him out and lock the door, the report states. But he waited for the Spain sisters outside, and attacked them with a knife, according to the report.
Samyia was stabbed in the chest, while her sister suffered a stab to her arm, police said. Medics rushed them to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced Samyia dead, NYPD officials said.
No one had been arrested as of Monday morning.
The bodega is the same shop where authorities said a woman, in broad daylight, shot her ex-girlfriend in the head in 2021.
Another chance encounter in Brooklyn led to the death of Carlyle Thomas, 61, just hours before Spain died, police said.
Thomas had argued with a 30-year-old tow truck driver Kevon M. Johnson near Clarkson Avenue and Rockaway Parkway late Saturday, authorities said.
Johnson punched Thomas in the face, causing him to hit the pavement, police said. Medics rushed Thomas to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead about 9:15 p.m., authorities said.
Police arrested Johnson, who faces a requested charge of recklessly causing physical injury, NYPD officials said.
Cops over the weekend also responded to an early Saturday shooting along Ditmas Avenue, near East 89th Street, where they found Dennis McMillan, 23, with a fatal gunshot to his head, police said.
Also during Saturday, 47-year-old Alexis Ramirez was found shot multiple times along Morris Avenue, police said. Doctors pronounced him dead after the apparent shooting that unfolded about 8:40 p.m., authorities said.
And a Harlem man — Michael Smith, 47 — was found fatally stabbed in an apartment Sunday afternoon, police said.
