A coastal flood watch is in effect for shorelines in Alexandria, Arlington County and the District Saturday night through Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Rain is expected to move into the Washington, D.C. metro before daybreak on Saturday and continue through the morning, forecasters said.

Shoreline inundation is expected along portions of the seawall adjacent to Ohio Drive and the Hains Point Loop Road and near the Tidal Basin. Water is expected to approach the curb near the intersection of King Street and Strand Street in Alexandria,” the NWS said Saturday.

The agency continued, “If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.”

The steadiest rain will likely occur Saturday night before coming to an end Sunday morning, forecasters said. Anywhere from a half-inch to one inch of rainfall is expected, according to the NWS. Thunderstorms are also possible, forecasters said.

Conditions are expected to be dry and mild Friday before deteriorating overnight and into the early morning hours Saturday, forecasters said.

According to the Capital Weather Gang’s latest forecast, windy, cooler conditions will replace the rain on Sunday morning.

“Skies are bright and likely sunniest in the morning before a few pop-up clouds mix in later,” the Capital Weather Gang’s forecast said. “Afternoon temperatures struggle to reach the upper 40s to low 50s with cold, dry west-northwest wind gusts around 40 to 50 mph possible. Wind chills will feel 5-10 degrees colder than thermometer readings.”

Gusty winds are expected to continue Monday before subsiding Tuesday, forecasters said.
