Speeding A Problem On Darien Street: Alderman
DARIEN, IL – A Darien alderman said Monday that speeding was a problem on Nantucket Drive.
The north-south Nantucket is a 1.2-mile residential street that connects 75th Street to North Frontage Road. It serves as the western border of part of Alderman Gerry Leganski’s narrow Ward 4.
At a City Council meeting, Leganski said he recognized that a study demonstrated drivers’ speeds on Nantucket don’t justify flashing electronic signs that show drivers how fast they are going.

But he said such signs on 79th Street received “rave reviews” in his ward.
Dan Gombac, the city’s municipal services director, said he had spoken with Leganski and that he believed the signs could serve as a deterrent for speeders.

Gombac said he would recommend such traffic-calming equipment on Nantucket.
Such signs cost $5,500 apiece, he said.
Nantucket’s speed limit is 25 mph, which is the limit for Darien’s residential streets.
