NOTES FROM RAW…
I just came out of Raw and thought I’d share my initial first impressions.
As a live show, I really enjoyed it. Trowd seemed up for most of it (poor Mojo Rowley) and Raw was likely helped by the fact it was taped so it was constantly moving. You will be glad to know there wasn’t too much awkward waiting in the ring. My wife, who hasn’t watched wrestling since the Steve Austin era, also had a great time.
That said, and I could be wrong and jumping the gun before watching it air on TV, but it didn’t feel too much was developed from a storyline point of view unless bits are being added that we didn’t see in the arena. Especially with Seth Rollins and A.J. Styles. After Styles walking off last week, there was very little follow up just a couple of promos. Could they be planning something for tomorrow? If not, it feels like the build has cooled off or am being too down on it. Being a Rollins fan, I was hoping to see an angle play out tonight.
On a side note, was Roman Reigns really needed tonight? It felt liked he was wedged in? There were certainly a few boos for him but comfortably way more cheers. He has a great presence, but I can’t help but feel he’s out there just going through the motions. Does he truly care about wrestling? I don’t feel like he does.
While three hours is without doubt too long for a weekly TV show, I also find it hard to see how they can’t use the extra time they have to further develop characters and storylines and at least make use of the time instead of just packing full of filler content and Baron Corbin. There are still so many talented wrestlers on the roster we know very little about, Ricochet, the Viking Raiders, even Ember Moon )and she was called up 12 months ago). Am I expecting too much?
