Former WWE Star Jack Swagger Walks Away From Car Crash and Into Brawl With Five Star Wrestling Talent
Not even a car crash could stop the man formerly known as Jack Swagger from making a huge statement on signing exclusively for 5 Star Wrestling in the UK.
The former WWE World Champion, who will be competing for 5 Star under his real name of Jake Hager on their historic live TV series on FreeSports, was involved in an auto accident on his way to meet the media at a press launch in Sheffield, UK.
Hager joked about the incident after walking away unscathed after the vehicle he was traveling in as a passenger was hit from the back by another car after it stopped at a set of traffic lights.
“We stopped at a red light and got rear-ended,” said the 6ft7in dual sports star, who has also signed for Mixed Martial Arts group Bellator.
“I got out of the car and as soon as the guy saw it was me in there, he drove off!”
And then, in a light-hearted dig at outspoken UK wrestler Zack Gibson, he said: “I think the guy was wearing a Gibson T-shirt!”
After the former WWE World, ECW and United States Champion finally arrived at the 5 Star launch event at the Fly DSA Arena on Monday, Hager made disparaging remarks about British wrestlers which led to a brawl with British star ‘English Lion’ Eddie Ryan.
Hager will face Ryan one-on-one when 5 Star Wrestling LIVE on FreeSports kicks off at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Thursday, February 1 (7pm to 10pm). This will be the first and only live television series by a British wrestling company to be available to most homes in the UK and Hager has signed for all 12 dates announced so far, in Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield, Plymouth, Belfast, Aberdeen, Manchester, Leeds, Dundee, Blackburn and Cardiff.
Former WWE superstar Rey Mysterio is also signed to all dates on the tour, as is UK reality TV star and pro wrestler Adam Maxted, while others taking part at different times during the tour include Rob Van Dam, John Morrison, Moose, Carlito, Chris Masters, PJ Black, Joey Axl, El Ligero, Dave Mastiff, Big Grizzly, Nathan Cruz, Kid Fite, Lou King Sharp, Jack Jester, Charlie Sterling, Rampage Brown, Zack Gibson and Ryan.
“I’m excited to get my hands on that English kitty kat on February 1,” said Hager of Ryan, after their fight was pulled apart by 5 Star staff and wrestlers.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how far 5 Star can go and I’m looking forward to reaching 18 million UK homes and worldwide.
“You hear people talk about how great British wrestling once was yet there is no television deal anywhere across any promotion. 5 Star has that, that’s why I’m here.
“British wrestling is in their blood, it’s about grit and hard work. But I’m looking forward to showing them what Americans can do.”
The All-American American also revealed at the press conference that he was a big fan of English football, or soccer as it’s known in his home country.
“I’m a big Tottenham fan. I’m excited to see what they can do in the future and hopefully Harry Kane will stay.”
