The Jets’ players released a statement through their union Friday evening saying many of them will not be attending in-person voluntary workouts this offseason due to health concerns.

“Football is a labor of love for our men, who work year-round to stay in shape and prepare ourselves to perform at the highest level,” the statement posted on the NFL Players Association’s social media platforms read. “Given that we are still in a pandemic and based on the facts provided to our membership by our union about the health and safety benefits of a virtual offseason many of us will exercise our CBA right and not attend in-person voluntary workouts.”

“We respect that every player has a right to make a decision about what is best for him and his family,” the statement continued, “and we stand in solidarity with other players across the NFL who are making informed choices about this offseason.”

When the Daily News reached out to the Jets for a comment they didn’t respond.

The Jets are the 13th team to opt out of participating in voluntary offseason workouts.

The teams that have already decided against voluntary offseason workouts are the Giants, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons, and Los Angeles Chargers.

While America is still in a pandemic, players are putting their safety first while also realizing they can just workout with their personal trainers and still get the same results. Workouts are scheduled to begin next Wednesday and run through June 18.
