Spoilers on NEW GFW Champion, Johnny Impact, Bellas Returning?
As mentioned in an earlier report, Jim Cornette returned to Impact during tonight’s Global Force Wrestling tapings. Cornette came down to the ring and “fired” Bruce Prichard before making his next announcement. He decided that there would be a 20-man gauntlet match to determine the new GFW Champion after Alberto El Patron had been stripped of the belt due to his suspension from the company. Eli Drake, despite being the first entrant in the huge match, managed to win and become the new GFW Champion. This is the first time that Drake has won the top belt in the company, he debuted back in 2015. The match is scheduled to air on next’s week Impact show.
The tapings were filled with a number of different surprise debuts and returns from former stars. The aforementioned Cornette appeared, as did Taryn Terrell and Petey Williams. The end of tonight’s show on Pop TV ended with a vignette for a rumored signee. The former John Morrison in WWE/Johnny Mundo in Lucha Underground advertised himself as “The Thursday Night Delight” Johnny Impact. He revealed in the teaser that he is still working as AAA and Lucha Underground champion in addition to his new GFW gig. This signing has been seen as inevitable for most fans since Mundo had already worked a series of GFW live events just a few weeks ago.
In other news, a few different places have been reporting rumors of Brie Bella making a possible comeback at SummerSlam, while others have been suggesting that Nikki Bella may be returning to the ring this Sunday instead. It actually appears as though both are going to be returning to WWE very soon, but not necessarily as wrestlers. Cageside Seats reports that The Bella Twins are going to be sitting ringside for John Cena’s match against Baron Corbin at SummerSlam, but they did not go into what else they might be doing at the pay-per-view. The report mentions that they will also be in town to shoot new footage for their Total Bellas reality show as well.
