GFW & WWE Receive Trademark Attorneys for Hardy Applications

Looks like the battle involving The Hardys, GFW & now WWE is still not over yet. Earlier this year Matt Hardy, Global Force Wrestling, and WWE all separately filed trademarks for certain properties that relate to the Hardy brothers, but the trademarks were denied for all three parties. When WWE recently attempted to file trademarks for the Hardys, they were denied due to the fact that they did not have the consent of either Matt or Jeff Hardy beforehand. This was quickly remedied and the belief is that both brothers have now given WWE their approval. It appears now that the trademark, originally submitted by WWE in April, will be published for opposition later this month.
Meanwhile, GFW filed a few different trademarks relating to Matt Hardy’s “Broken Universe,” with one in particular being denied due to a conflict with the “Broken Matt Hardy” trademark that Matt himself filed first earlier in the year. WWE’s attempts to trademark were also denied recently for the very same reason, and it was reported that all action will be frozen until Matt’s claim has been finalized. PWInsider does report now that trademark attorneys were assigned to both WWE and GFW on July 27th. This means that the companies will be able to by-pass the normal three-month waiting period that is usually to be expected with most trademark filings.
It is unclear who could end up receiving the proper trademarks as of now. Matt Hardy and his wife Reby have suggested filing a lawsuit against Global Force Wrestling for some time now, but no legal action has been taken as of now. Despite the “Broken Universe” seeming lost in purgatory, both Matt and Jeff Hardy have been teasing that a new “Woken” version of themselves may be coming to WWE soon. These characters that the brothers have been portraying as of late have a ton of similar tendencies as the “Broken” characters did.
