SMSU travels to Buena Vista Open this Saturday
MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team prepares to travel to the Buena Vista Open this Saturday in Storm Lake, Iowa, to compete in the fourth open of the season.
SMSU head coach Jesse Nelson is expecting 18 wrestlers to compete during the open which is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
The Mustangs (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) opened the conference season on Nov. 20 to face defending national champions, St. Cloud State.
SMSU competed in three opens prior to this weekend in which SMSU placed a season-high 12 wrestlers at the Augsburg Open on Nov. 23.
Cole Hennen (184), Jackson Ryan (197), and Gage Wevley (285) all placed second for SMSU while Ben Thompson (197) and Nathan Moore (157) were named consolation champions.
Southwest Minnesota State will continue Northern Sun action traveling to Upper Iowa on Thursday, Dec. 12, a 7 p.m. in Dorman Gymnasium.
