Sergei Ovchinnikov died

Russian women’s national volleyball team coach passed away. The cause of this sudden tragedy is for the moment unknown.

 

The Russian head coach was 43 years old. It all happened on Wednesday at the team’s training base in Croatia, when his club team Dinamo Moscow was preparing to the new season.

The official cause is unknown, but the are unconfirmed information about suicide. Other Russian coaches says, that the Olympic failure was a very difficult for Ovchinnikov to handle. Russian women’s team was a strong favorite, but they lost in quarterfinals with Brazil.

“He took the Olympics very personally”, said Alekno “I saw what he was going through and how upset he was after the defeat. He didn’t talk much. Even after victories he was always thinking about something and smoked a lot.”
