The Internet Slams Pete Davidson for Joking That He Replaced Ariana Grande’s Birth Control with Tic Tacs
The new season of Saturday Night Live took the opportunity to poke fun at cast member Pete Davidson’s new relationship for its premiere. And even Davidson threw in a few jokes about his whirlwind romance with Ariana Grande during last night’s episode. However, not everyone was laughing.
When appearing on the popular sketch the Weekend Update to discuss life with his fiancée, he made a tone-deaf remark about how he was going to make sure the pop icon stays with him for the long-haul.
In the segment, Davidson first tells co-host Colin Jost he’s completely fine with the couple getting a prenup before the wedding. “Obviously I wanted one, you know, so God forbid we split up and then she takes half my sneakers,” he quipped. “No look, I’m totally comfortable being with a successful woman, I think it’s dope. I live at her place.”

“The man doesn’t always have to be the breadwinner in a relationship,” Jost added.
“God— right, Colin. He does not,” Davidson replied, before adding his controversial statement: “Last night I switched her birth control with Tic Tacs. I believe in us and all, but I just want to make sure that she can’t go anywhere.” Yikes!
His joke certainly didn’t land with the internet (and understandably so), as many social media users pointed out that sabotaging a woman’s birth control method is not funny.
Others just found his remark straight up creepy.
Let this be a lesson for all comedians: Joking about switching out a woman’s birth control is typically regarded as offensive.
