Antonio's Italian Bistro Opening New Trumbull Restaurant
TRUMBULL, CT — Antonio’s Italian Bistro, a popular Darien-based Italian restaurant, will open its next location at 921 White Plains Road in Trumbull early next year.
Peter Redei, chief operating officer for the restaurant group Antonio’s operates under, confirmed the new restaurant is scheduled to open sometime in mid-January.
“We could not be more excited,” Redei said to Patch. “It’s truly an amazing venture for us.”

The Trumbull restaurant will mark the third Antonio’s location to open within a little over a year. The Darien restaurant first opened its doors to customers in November 2023, and a second location in Lake George, N.Y., opened in May of this year.
“We are young and we are pushing forward,” Redei said.

According to Redei, Owner Antonio Sandolo is a first-generation Italian whose father owned the beloved Stamford restaurant John the Baker for over 50 years.
“[Sandolo] has been making pizzas and working in an Italian kitchen since he was 5 years old,” Redei said.
Redei, whose father also owned restaurants and has opened a number of eateries himself, said he and Sandolo are excited to move into the Trumbull area and will stay true to the brand they have worked hard to establish over the past year.
“We are staying true to our integrity and our top of the line ingredients and service and whatnot,” Redei said. “That’s what made us well-known in this area.”
Redei also emphasized the Trumbull restaurant will continue to use “the absolute highest quality of ingredients” for all of its dishes.
“We use prime meats,” Redei said. “We always believe that no matter what, and it might not be necessarily related to the restaurant, we always believe in integrity, honesty and transparency. That’s how we live our lives and that’s how we operate our business.”
In addition to dinner, the Trumbull location will offer lunch, happy hour specials and “amazing brunches with some Italian twists,” according to Redei. It will also feature a big bar with an enticing cocktail menu
Redei noted he and Sandolo will aim to make the Trumbull restaurant a welcoming place where anyone can enjoy good food and drinks in a welcoming atmosphere.
“I want everyone to feel comfortable coming to Antonio’s,” Redei said, “whether it’s an engagement party we host in the back room, whether it’s a just a happy hour and you show up in your sweatpants, it doesn’t matter. We are catering for each and every individual who’s going to walk through the door…from suits to sweatpants, everybody can come.”
Excitement for the Trumbull restaurant has been steadily growing after a sign advertising the soon-to-open Antonio’s location was posted to the door of the White Plains Road building and spotted by residents.
News of the sign was later featured in a post on the town’s social media, further exciting those familiar with the popular Darien restaurant.
Redei admitted the level of excitement surrounding the Trumbull restaurant is unlike anything he has seen before with other restaurant openings.
“We never would have thought this could possibly happen this way, but we are not going to let anybody down,” Redei said. “We are staying true to our core values, and that’s exactly what we are going to bring to each and every one of [our customers].”
As the Antonio’s team plans out their menu for Trumbull, Redei teased some traditional Italian dishes at affordable prices.
He also encouraged Trumbull customers unfamiliar with the brand to visit their Darien restaurant to get a feel for who they are as a business.
“We make the meatballs in house, we make our braciole in house, our sausages, some of the pasta, some of the desserts,” Redei said. “The bread is made freshly every single day. Just the smell when you walk into the restaurant, it’s going to be amazing.”
Though he noted only time will tell exactly what will make Antonio’s stand apart from other quality restaurants in the area, Redei emphasized the Trumbull restaurant will utilize “clean, simple, high ingredients” to serve generous portions of high-quality food made in an open kitchen.
“I would just like to give the opportunity to everyone to come and try us,” Redei said. “Let our quality and our service speak for ourselves.”
