GREENPORT, NY —The Greenport junior high and high school Interact Club made Easter special for the entire elementary school Wednesday.

“The club members have worked hard, and we collected and stuffed over 7,000 eggs with 100 golden egg prizes,” said Interact Club co-advisor Carolyn Sweeney; Rebecca Lillis is also an advisor. ‘The afternoon was filled with excitement and smiles as the club members helped the students open their eggs to reveal all the exciting prizes.”

The Interact club is sponsored by the Greenport Rotary Club, with a focus on developing leadership skills while discovering the power of “service above self,” Sweeney said.

The club hosts a number of community events, including a trunk-or-treat in the fall, she added.

The junior high and high school club members were excited to throw the hunt and when asked, the community stepped in to support them, Sweeney aid.

The Southold Mothers Club, along with teachers and community members, donated or lent eggs.

“With the help of the community, the club was able to fill four fields with over 7,000 eggs,” she said. “Local businesses also donated toward golden eggs prizes to help support our students.”

Businesses that donated included the Love Lane Sweet Shoppe, the Magic Fountain and the Southold 7-Eleven.

“This event was a special community event led by students for students. The Interact Club members are excited to make this an annual event,” Sweeney said.
