WTC Final – India And Australia Aiming To Complete ICC Haul
June 7 – save the date. Yes, it is the WTC final. India and Australia are facing off for the right to be called Test champions. India missed out after losing the first final in 2021 and now have the chance to do one better.
The moment Sri Lanka lost to New Zealand in the opening Test, India’s place was sealed in the final. Australia had booked their berth when they beat the hosts in the 3rd Test. The 4th Test between the 2 was drawn and India won the series 2-1, their 4th straight one.
Two evenly matched sides shall be playing in English conditions. As per recent record, India do have a slight advantage over the Aussies but underestimate the No. 1 Test side at your own peril.
One thing common for both sides is the chance to complete the ICC haul. That’s right, India and Australia have won the ODI and T20I World Cups along with the Champions Trophy. So this is the chance to add the elusive WTC to their haul of titles.
India have won 2 ODI World Cups, 1 T20 World Cup and 2 Champions Trophies (1 joint winner). Australia have to their credit 5 ODI World Cups, 1 T20 World Cup and 2 Champions Trophies. Now that’s a lot of titles between them.
Whichever team does win will be the first to win the complete ICC set. That is no mean achievement. There is also a possibility that the trophy is shared and the weather will also have a part to play, given where the final is being placed.
Rohit Sharma and Pat Cummins know the challenges that lie ahead. In less than 3 months they go head to head yet again.
The countdown has begun and the teams are waiting for June 7. Who will be the last team standing? It remains to be seen.
