Bret Hart reportedly signs lucrative contract with WWE

Bret Hart and WWE are reportedly back in business together.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that folks in AEW believe Hart has quietly signed a lucrative deal with WWE that prevents him from working with AEW, but allows him to take various independent bookings. Hart is currently advertised to appear for Big Time Wrestling in the corner of FTR as they take on Brock Anderson and Brian Pillman Jr.

FTR has been teasing a partnership with Hart on AEW television, but the reason this appearance is happening on the independent circuit and not Dynamite is because of the contract that Hart signed. The contract also prevents Hart from being involved in the AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament that is currently taking place in AEW, which will culminate at the Double or Nothing PPV event at the end of May.

Hart appeared at the inaugural AEW event, Double or Nothing, in 2019. On the show, Hart revealed the AEW World Championship belt for the very first time. Hart’s relationship with WWE is well-documented and rocky at best. After the Montreal Screwjob in 1997, Hart left the company and didn’t appear on WWE television again until 2010. Hart wrestled Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 26 and participated in other ways throughout the years.

Hart is a multiple time WWE Champion, Intercontinental Champion, and Tag Team Champion. He’s also a two-time WCW World Champion, multiple time WCW United States Champion, and WCW Tag Team Champion.

Bret Hart was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006 and then again with The Hart Foundation in 2019.
