What Were The Original Plans For Lio Rush & The Mae Young Classic Tournament

August 9, 2021 0 By JohnValbyNation

During the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plans for both Lio Rush and the Mae Young Classic tournament were revealed.

According to the report, had she not suffered her injury, Tegan Nox was originally slated to defeat Toni Storm in the Semi-FInal and compete in the Final at WWE Evolution. It is unknown whether or not Nox would have won the tournament, just as Storm ended up doing, but it was clear that WWE had high hopes for Nox.

Original Plans For Lio Rush

As well as stating the original plans for the Mae Young Classic, the plans for Lio Rush were announced as well. The report stated that Rush was set to be featured on WWE 205 Live, just as he has been, as a top heel. However, his gimmick would have been as a top heel hiding behind Babatunde Aiyegbusi, but since he wasn’t called up to the main roster those plans changed.

Rush and Babatunde had been working together on live events of WWE NXT shows which were why the company was planning on using it again, but once he wasn’t called up Rush was moved to WWE Raw to team with Bobby Lashley instead.
