On Saint Kabir’s 500th Death Anniversary: Here Is Everything You Need To Know About His Burial Place
India’s most revered 15th century mystic poet, Kabir Das has penned down the most read couplets in the entire world. His sayings not only influenced people’s way of life but also contributed largely towards ‘Hinduism Bhakti movement’.
“Dukh mein sumiran sab karein, Sukh mein kare na koy,
Jo sukh mein sumiran kare, dukh kaahe ko hoy.”
His verses reflected a deep meaning of reality and his legacy continues even today through a religious community called ‘Kabir Panth’. While his writings left the readers captivated, little is known about his death or burial.
Saint Kabir breathed his last on June 28 in Maghar, a small town in Sant Kabir Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh. The tourism department of the state is now even making efforts to promote Maghar as a popular destination where India’s religious diversity is reflected. A temple has been built there by Hindus while Muslims have constructed a mausoleum in his memory.
